Making Fabric Sheets [Text]

  • The first thing you must do is shake the bottle well. (a 4oz. bottle will make 200 sheets!)

  • Wear rubber gloves to protect your hands.

  • Get a one gallon bottle of distilled water.

  • In a well ventilated area, add 6 tablespoons of the Inkjet Setter Solution to one gallon of distilled water.(or 3 tablespoons to a 1/2 gallon) Be sure get a marker and label the bottle so no one drinks your solution! Keep out of reach of children.

  • Fold the quantity of  100% cotton fabric you want to use and place it in a plastic container(not used for food).

  • Pour the solution  on the fabric until it is saturated.

  • Let the fabric stay in the solution for at least one hour.

  • Ring out the fabric and save the excess solution for later.

  • Hang up the fabric and let it dry.

  • Now get the Heavy Duty Freezer Paper. Place it shiny side up on your ironing board. Place the fabric on shiny side of the paper and iron with a hot iron. The fabric will stick to thepaper.

  • Turn the fabric over with the paper side up and mark 81/2″ by 11″ sheets.

  • Cut out with scissors or a rotary cutter. You can iron them again if needed.

  • After all of the sheets are finished, place them fabric side down on a flat surface. Place a heavy book on top when they are not in use. This will keep them

flat so they will go through your printer smoothly.Your printable fabric sheets are now ready to use.

  • After they are printed let the sheets rest for at least 24 hours. Waiting two or three days is even better. This will make sure your colors remain vibrant. If you can’t wait that long, iron the printed sheets with a hot iron(no steam) before going on to the next step. Do not let them get wet at this stage.

  • Now, peel the freezer paper off of the fabric. (save the freezer paper, it maybe able to be used again)

  • Pour the excess solution back into your plastic container. Add water to your saved solution. (1 part solution, 5 parts distilled water) Make another container with plain water.

  • Now put your printed fabric sheet in the solution for about 30 seconds to a minute each keeping the sheets flat. After the sheets have been in the solution for 30 seconds to 1 minute,  put them in the water. Pull them out of the water right away and place them on an old towel to blot the water.

  • Let them dry and sew according to the instructions! You can now wash your printed fabric.

In the next article I will show you how I tried to make my own ink setting solution from a recipe I found online! I’ll show you the results…Stay Tuned!
